Natural mineral water Gorna Banya

The mineral spring in Sofia’s Gorna Banya quarter has been known since Thracian times. The first study and description of this water was made as early as 1887. Analyses over the years show that it has a constant physical and chemical composition and is microbiologically pure. This is due both to its deep origin — more than 600 m down, which rules out any outside contamination or influence from unfavourable weather — and to the absence of constituents that change over time. Experimental studies with Gorna Banya mineral water have shown that, after it was artificially contaminated with certain bacteria, it suppressed their growth over 10 days and had a “purifying” effect.
