Oligomineral water is a relatively new term. We all know that drinking at least two litres of water a day is good for our bodies, but not everyone considers that it matters which type of water we choose.

In Bulgaria, almost all mineral, table, and spring waters have relatively low mineralisation. Oligomineral water is the most common — also known as water with an optimal mineralisation level between 50 and 500 mg/l, making it ideal for everyday consumption.

How to Choose the Right Water Type
By common sense, water is always mineral because even in tiny amounts it contains minerals that make up TDS (Totally Dissolved Solids) — the solid residue left after evaporation at 180°C. Always read the label on the bottle.
People who actively care about their health often choose minimally mineralised water, but that is not a requirement for a positive effect — it depends on how your body works. If you are prone to kidney stones, oligomineral water is preferable because it encourages diuresis. Athletes, children, and older adults with fragile bones may need water with higher mineralisation.
Taste matters too. Light water may encourage you to drink more to quench your thirst, while hard water satisfies thirst more quickly.
